Our Latest Blog Entry

I am very excited about a new gallery coming to Naples! Coco Gallery is a wonderful venue that allows local artists to display and sell their work. They have had a location in the Coconut Point Mall in Estero for some time (I currently have work displayed in Estero) and are preparing for the opening of their new Naples location in the Coastland Mall, right next door to Macy's.

A few of us from the Art Guild of Naples stopped by today to get an early look at the new space and it is quite impressive. Above you will find a few pics of the new venue.

They expect to have intake day for this location sometime in mid-October and are planning to open soon after that. I will keep you posted regarding the official opening day, but I wanted to make everyone aware of this new venue.

If you are an artist in Southwest Florida you should check out the Coco Gallery website on the requirements to get your work shown in their venues.

If you are a lover of art, please add their new location to your list of places to shop for your art needs.

We will keep you posted regarding the official opening of this beautiful gallery.

Wow! It has been a long time since I have updated this blog! Time has been flying by and so much has happened.

Our art guild, Art Guild of Naples, has been very busy planning for two events this Fall, and I have been busy preparing work to present at the shows.   I started a new product line of painted glassware to sell at the shows to diversify my products a bit. You can see examples of the glasses under the gallery heading Gifts for the Home. They are fun to work on and great for commission work to tailor colors to match the décor of my client’s homes.

My heart is still happiest when I am producing canvas work and I have been exploring many different styles of painting.  Most recently I have been expanding my work in painting acrylic abstracts. It has been very fulfilling and challenging to only use brushes and pallet knives in my work as I am so used to having a fluid component to my paintings. In the Gallery, you will find a new abstract painting named Vincent. The piece has several sections of sheet music for Starry Starry Night embedded in the painting, so the name Vincent just seemed to fit.

My biggest news is that my work is now displayed in a gallery!  I was accepted at the COCO Gallery in Estero,, Florida and their new location in Naples which opens in October. This was a huge step for me as I had never participated in a jury process before.   I was so nervous that my work would not be up to their standards, but I Passed!!!  If you are in the Southwest Florida area, please stop by and see the works created by some very talented local artists in the COCO Gallery. You won’t be disappointed!

Stay creative everyone and I will try to update this blog on a more regular basis in the future.

Life has been anything but dull lately, but I am excited to say I am working on a new project that I will be sharing with you shortly. It is a challenge from Art Resin to create something unique utilizing their resin products, which I absolutely love. This is a great opportunity to take a chance to create something a little different from my typical style and I can’t wait to share it with you. It is coming soon, so please check back.

Hi!  I’m Joanie, the artist behind the art on this website.

I am not one of those artists who have been creating all their lives. In fact, before I retired from a field in computer technology and project management, I would always say that I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. I told myself that I was a logical person, not a creative. After retirement, I discovered that I had been lying to myself all these years and holding myself back.

When approaching retirement, I knew that I would need something that I had a passion for and that I loved to fill my time. To my great surprise, that passion was painting! Under this exterior of logic, I discovered a creative person who finally gave herself permission to be messy! My lesson was, don’t give up on anything before you even try!

Over the course of the next few years, I painted – a lot! When a piece was completed, I would set it in my completed stack and periodically donate them to various charities. People began to encourage me to sell my art, but I wasn’t ready to deal with the business side of art – I was too busy trying to discover what was possible on a canvas!

When we moved from Wisconsin to Southwestern Florida, my creative energy really flowed. I was so inspired by the ocean, foliage, and wildlife! Living in this beautiful environment made me paint even more. It also provided me with the courage to put myself out where people could see my work, which is the reason I created this website.

I have started this blog to bring you along on my journey from a silent creator, to an artist who is finally ready to share my work.

Check back often. This is an evolving story!
